Introduction by Barbara K. Mistick
Dear Colleagues,
I know the news about the Pell Grant funding shortfall is causing some confusion and resulting in many questions about available resources. I want to assure you that the $7,395 maximum grant for award year 2026–27, which begins July 1, 2026, will not be affected. (See story for more details.)
Addressing the Pell Grant funding shortfall will be a top NAICU priority in our upcoming advocacy efforts related to the FY 2027 appropriations process. Stay tuned for more details as the appropriations process unfolds and for advice and guidance on future advocacy engagement that I’ll be asking our membership to undertake.
In other news, President Trump delivered his State of the Union address this week. While the speech touched on many domestic issues, the president did not specifically mention higher education. This comes despite the Trump Administration’s sustained focus on higher education policy and regulatory matters over the past year.
IPEDS Training Webinar Series. This week, NAICU hosted its fifth IPEDS training, which included discussion on the Admissions and Consumer Transparency Supplement and the spring IPEDS collection cycle. You can view the training and presentation slides, and register for the final webinar on our IPEDS webpage.
I hope you have a pleasant weekend.
Regards,
Barbara
